Our new internship program acquaints students with the Librarys collections and programs and provides the opportunity to explore a variety of career and work experiences. Funding for the Summer Reading Intern Program generously provided in part by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and YALSA as part of their Summer Reading Grant Program.
The Benzie Shores District Library is seeking interns for the summer of 2017. Interns will receive a $350 dollar stipend at the end of their term of service, which runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Interns will be expecte to work 4 to 6 hours per week. They may take one week off in addition to the week of July 4th. Interns will receive t-shirts and nametags to wear while they are working as an intern, and will be provided with training and materials to use during their term. In the case of early termination of internship, the stipend will be prorated (the intern will receive only a portion of stipend).
Applications are available to all teens 14-17 years old in the BSDL community. Once completed applications are received, applicants will be notified about potential interviews. Applications are due by midnight, April 28, 2017.
Assist in various aspects of the youth summer programming (planning, implementation of programs, displays, statistics) as assigned
Help prepare supplies and materials for kids workshops
Assist in cleanup/setup and teardown of activities
Represent the library by wearing provided intern t-shirt or name tag while volunteering
Other duties as required.
Experience working with children/youth
Ability to work as part of a team
Ability to receive/follow instructions
Willingness to learn and participate in everyday library work (shelving books, keeping areas tidy, checking in books)
Must be self-motivated and able to stay on task without direct supervision
Must be available to work approximately 4-6 hours per week (or as scheduled). Interns may request to take one week off in addition to the week of July 4th.
Must be 14-17 years old. Applicants must be 14 by June 1st, 2017.
Must have a way of transportation to/from the library.
Must be reliable, on time, and must have the ability to keep supervisor notified about vacations, time off, etc.
